Footballer Dusan Petkovic: Former Bundesliga professional arrested: It's about 115 kilos of cocaine

Former Bundesliga professional Dusan Petkovic is said to have been arrested in an international raid on a Serbian drug ring.

As reported by the Serbian daily "Blic", among others, he was arrested along with seven other members of an organized criminal group suspected of smuggling large quantities of cocaine from South America to Belgium. To this end, the suspects hid the drugs in concrete slabs. In order to disguise the transport of the drugs to the outside world, they replaced the records legally purchased in Luxembourg with similar, home-made versions, in which the cocaine was hidden.

When officers stormed a warehouse in the Belgian city of Arlon last Saturday, four suspects were in the process of hiding the cocaine intended for export in concrete slabs. This should then be distributed via a German freight forwarder to Trier and to London and Germany for resale, as the newspaper reports, referring to the statement by the public prosecutor.

In total, the officers seized 103 packages with a total weight of 115 kilograms and an estimated black market value of 11.5 million euros. The three other suspected gang members were arrested on the same day in Serbia, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The 48-year-old Petkovic is said to have been arrested in Amsterdam along with another 28-year-old Serb.

Dusan Petkovic was once active for 1. FC Nürnberg and VfL Wolfsburg. He also played for Real Mallorca, Spartak Moscow, Yokohama Marinos, Saturn Ramenskoe and OFK Belgrade, among others. The 48-year-old is currently sports director at the Serbian football club. OFK has not yet made an official statement about the arrest.

His father Ilija Petkovic was also a professional soccer player. He took an active part in the 1974 World Cup for his country and later coached the Serbian-Montenegrin football team, with which he took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
