Finances: State Court of Auditors calls on municipalities to control costs

Due to the energy crisis and the rising prices as a result of the Ukraine war, the State Court of Auditors has asked the municipalities in Hesse to plan their income carefully and to take inflation into account. "It's gratifying that the Hessian municipalities have such a strong income, but they are also strong when it comes to spending," said President Walter Wallmann on Friday according to the municipal report for 2022 in Wiesbaden.

Especially with a view to the rising energy costs, districts, cities and communities must consistently question the standards they have set themselves. This includes, for example, the care ratios in kindergarten groups and voluntary services such as Christmas lights or water temperatures in the pools, said Wallmann. Otherwise, due to the current developments, the income could not be sufficient to cover the rising expenses caused by inflation.
