Festivals: Many Christmas markets open on Monday

Numerous Christmas markets in Germany open their doors on Monday. In Augsburg, Berlin, Frankfurt and Ulm, stands attract visitors with mulled wine, punch and bratwurst, with candles and Christmas music.

In Frankfurt, for example, Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) opened the Christmas market on Monday. Together with Vice President Michael Otto from Eintracht Frankfurt, he wants to illuminate around 25,000 energy-saving LED light points on the Christmas tree.

Many Berlin markets are also included, for example at the Red Town Hall or Alexanderplatz. The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (CDU), is also expected at some of the official openings in the afternoon.

Most of the Christmas markets in Hamburg also start on Monday. The most popular event of this kind is probably the traditional Christmas market at the town hall, where the expected almost three million visitors can visit almost 80 stalls.

From Monday, decorated stands in Lübeck will also be inviting visitors with bratwurst, mulled wine, cotton candy or Christmas decorations. In the south, Christmas fans can go to the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt or the Ulm Christmas market from Monday, for example. The opening of the famous Dresden Striezelmarkt follows on Wednesday (November 29th).
