Fastnacht: Söder gets "Goldene Narrenschelle" - date confirmed

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) receives the "Golden Fool's Bell" from the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fool's Guilds (VSAN). The award ceremony is planned for February 7th, Europa-Park announced on Monday in Rust (Ortenaukreis). The award to Söder had been announced a long time ago and is therefore not surprising. The event at Europa-Park had to be canceled last year due to the corona pandemic.

According to the announcement, the laudator is, as originally planned, the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann (Greens). The presentation of the "fool's bell" is one of the highlights of the local carnival.

Among other things, Söder is recognized for his quick-witted, eloquent language. The head of government also celebrates his fondness for masking and costumes and is a carnival and carnival friend. The former EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger, singer Tony Marshall and the Greens politician Kretschmann belong to the former fool's bell bearers.

The VSAN, founded in 1924, is one of the oldest fools' associations in Germany. It brings together 68 fools' guilds from the administrative districts of Freiburg, Tübingen and Stuttgart, the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia and five cantons in Switzerland.
