Energy prices: Young Dutch people suffer in crisis

In a survey by the public broadcaster NOS, young people in the Netherlands gave an insight into their lives during the energy crisis and high inflation. After the survey of 2,000 young people published on Saturday, many complain that they are hardly allowed to take warm showers, that they are gaining weight because healthy food has become too expensive and that they doubt whether they can still afford to study or have their own apartment.

"My parents get mad when my sister takes a hot bath," one responded. "My mother is very scared and sad because everything is getting worse," read another reply.

17-year-old: "Can't sleep because of the cold"

Inflation in the Netherlands rose to a record 17.1 percent in September, leaving many people simply unable to pay their electricity and gas bills. 17-year-old Shanna said that's why her parents moved to a cheaper house in another city. She can no longer see her friends and it is bitterly cold in her new room. "Sometimes I can't sleep because of the cold." Yasira, a young mother, complained about the high prices for healthy food. She no longer has any money, even for a day trip. With Justin (15), the question is whether his parents can continue to pay for his membership in the football club.
