A drunk man overturned his car on Autobahn 33 near Bielefeld and was seriously injured. The 45-year-old man was driving in the left lane towards Brilon when he bumped into a van driving in the right lane just before the Halle Westfalen junction, the police said on Tuesday morning. As a result of the collision, the drunk's car skidded, hit the concrete barrier and overturned. The car then came to a standstill on its wheels.

The 45-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The car that caused the accident was completely destroyed, according to police. The 47-year-old driver of the van was reportedly unharmed in the accident. Due to the rescue work, the lane on the A33 had to remain closed for around two hours.
