Dresden: Last generation blocked traffic on Loschwitzer Bridge

Activists from the Last Generation group blocked the so-called Blue Wonder in Dresden on Wednesday morning. Around 7:30 a.m., six people with banners walked onto the Loschwitz Bridge lane, the police said. Of the three women and three men, some glued themselves to the road and some to each other to block traffic in both lanes, a spokesman for the group said. Accordingly, during the protest action, two people stuck together were carried off the street by civilians.

According to the police, the six people involved were temporarily taken to a police station. The officials are said to have initiated an investigation into violation of the Assembly Act and coercion. In addition, the police intend to charge the six activists for the costs of the operation, it said. Last week, the Saxon Ministry of the Interior announced that people who stick to the streets in the name of climate protection should in future be increasingly involved in the costs of police operations.

With the roadblock, the activists are calling on the government to take effective action against climate change. "It is becoming increasingly obvious that the government, under the influence of the richest one percent, is not succeeding in protecting the interests of the population. We, the 99 percent, are dependent on action finally being taken," said an activist involved in the morning.
