According to Minister of Justice Georg Eisenreich (CSU), all Bavarian regional courts should be working with the electronic file by the end of the year - at least in part of the proceedings there. The Ministry of Justice in Munich announced that the introduction of the e-file should be completed by this time in all first-instance civil cases.

"This shortens procedures, saves waiting times and protects the health of those involved in the process in times of a pandemic," said Eisenreich. So far, 21 of the 22 regional courts and two of the three higher regional courts in Bavaria have used the digital file. According to the ministry, the e-file must be in use across the board by January 1, 2026.

In addition, according to Eisenreich, thousands of civil lawsuits in Bavaria are now being conducted via video conference. Since July 2021, all 99 courts in Bavaria have had the opportunity to negotiate digitally. The judge then always decides whether the technology is used or not. The Ministry of Justice assumes that around 10,000 hearings took place via video transmission last year.
