Death of a 58-year-old: Clinic fire in Pforzheim: According to the autopsy, the patient who was fixed to the bed died as a result of the fire

After the death of a man fixed to a hospital bed in a Pforzheim clinic, the autopsy result is available. Accordingly, the 58-year-old, who has now been identified, died from the fire that broke out in the emergency room, as the police and public prosecutor's office in Pforzheim announced on Friday. The investigations are ongoing.

The heavily intoxicated man was admitted to the emergency room before the fire on Tuesday evening. Because of his aggressive behavior towards other people, he was pinned to the hospital bed by the hospital staff. The public prosecutor's office also examines the legality of the fixation. Around 20 people were able to get themselves to safety during the fire. The body was later found by firefighters.

"We are investigating in all directions," said a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office on Thursday. It is still unclear how the fire started and why the man could not be brought to safety in time.

Meanwhile, the Karlsruhe human rights lawyer David Schneider-Addae-Mensah has filed a criminal complaint against unknown persons on suspicion of murder. From his point of view, there is an urgent suspicion that the patient died as a result of the fire because he was unable to escape. During a restraint, a sit watch is mandatory. "Apparently there was no such thing, or she left the dead man alone," said the lawyer.

Emergencies are now treated in other rooms in the hospital in Baden-Württemberg. According to a spokeswoman, the clinic in the 500-bed house continues to run normally.
