Cultural policy: Castles Foundation endorses culture pass for 18-year-olds

The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg advocates a culture pass for 18-year-olds in Germany. According to a statement, the general director of the foundation in Potsdam, Christoph Martin Vogtherr, said: "After the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic, this is an initiative that is as pleasing as it is sensible to make it easier for young people in particular to access culture." In France, the culture pass is already a success.

With a culture pass for initially only 18-year-olds, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) want to "advance an innovation in Germany in cultural policy," as they announced on Friday in Berlin. In a one-year model project, it is to apply to around 750,000 young people who will turn 18 next year. It should be possible to load 200 euros via an app. The money can be used for museums, theatres, concerts, books or CDs.
