CSIF demands bulletproof vests, raincoats and summer clothing for more than a hundred agents in Valencia who have not received them

The CSIF union has submitted a letter to the Valencia City Council to request "bulletproof vests, rain protection equipment, summer pants and other basic items or clothing for personal use" for Local Police officers who have not yet received them. The trade union center calculates that these shortcomings currently affect more than a hundred agents already incorporated.

The Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants Center (CSIF) explains that neither the 53 mobility agents who entered in December, nor the 21 new recruits who have already completed the Ivaspe course, nor others who provide their work after exchanges, have the necessary means to guarantee their safety and health in their work.

The union points out that in January the Consistory's argument in response to CSIF's request was that there was "a problem with the sizes." After four months, the trade union center considers that "due to the inaction and negligence of the Valencia City Council, this situation continues too long." For this reason, he has presented a letter this Monday by entry register requesting the provision of "water boots, raincoats, summer work pants and, quickly and urgently, bulletproof vests."

CSIF reminds the Consistory of the obligation it has, as an employer, to comply with Law 31/1995, of November 8, on the Prevention of Occupational Risks, in its article 14, which recognizes "the right of workers to effective protection in matters of safety and health at work. This right supposes a correlative duty of the protection employer”.

The trade union center, in its letter, also warns of the sanctions contemplated in the Penal Code for "not providing the necessary means for workers to carry out their activity with adequate safety and hygiene measures." In this regard, he points out that the so-called 'community vests', which some agents -in the absence of a particular vest- use and leave at the end of the shift and reuse the next one "do not have the personal use that should be adequate", in addition to alert the age of some, manufactured before 2005, and the poor condition, "with velcro straps" and "no maintenance".

CSIF, in view of this situation, requests "that the recently incorporated local police officers, and the rest of the agents who do not have them, be given a bulletproof vest, protective equipment against adverse weather conditions such as wellies or raincoats, summer and other basic elements or garments for personal use”. In addition, it also requires an urgent response to the letter explaining the City Council the measures it is going to adopt.
