Berlin (dpa) - Seven months after the fatal knife attack on a 31-year-old, the trial against her husband before the Berlin district court began. The indictment accuses him of murder for base motives. The 42-year-old is said to have killed the mother of six on April 29 in Killed Berlin-Pankow on the street with 13 stab wounds and cuts.

According to the indictment, the Afghan man decided to kill his wife because he felt offended by her intention to separate. The two defense attorneys announced at the beginning of the trial on Tuesday that their client would comment at a later date.

The accused is said to have married his then 17-year-old wife in 2008 under Islamic law. The marriage resulted in six children - they are now three to twelve years old, it was said on the sidelines of the negotiation. After the couple lived in Germany from the beginning of 2020, the dead woman is said to have become increasingly independent.

According to the indictment, the act was preceded by two physical injuries, which are also being discussed in the process. The 42-year-old is said to have hit his wife last February in the accommodation they initially shared. After that, he received a ban on entering the dormitory. In March, the man is said to have threatened his wife to kill her.

The case had caused criticism of the police and authorities. It was known that the mother of six was in danger, criticized women's rights organizations. The district court initially planned a total of 18 process days until February 2023 for the case.
