Crime: Many injured after shooting in Illinois

Gunshots at a gathering in a suburb of Chicago claimed many lives. According to a police spokesman, at least 19 people were injured and one person killed in Willowbrook (Illinois) on Sunday night after fire was opened at a party commemorating Juneteenth. The incident happened around midnight in a parking lot. The background to the crime is still unclear.

US President Joe Biden only declared June 19, 2021 a national holiday. "Juneteenth" commemorates the end of slavery in the USA. On that day in 1865, the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the slaves of Texas, was promulgated. In the southern state and some other US states, "Juneteenth" has long been a holiday.
