Crime: 41-year-old uses found wallet for extortion

A 21-year-old lost his wallet at Dortmund Central Station and was blackmailed by the finder. He asked for 200 euros by phone to give the young man the wallet with important documents back, as the federal police announced on Tuesday. Police officers drove to the agreed handover location and initiated investigations against the 41-year-old finder and blackmailer.

The 21-year-old had therefore turned to the federal police on Monday night: He had lost his wallet at the train station and was shortly afterwards called by an unknown person who asked for 200 euros and then hung up. In the presence of federal police officers, the 21-year-old called again and was given an address in the west of Dortmund.

Federal police officers went with them to observe the handover. When the 41-year-old repeated his request, they intervened. According to the federal police, the man has to answer for extortion and embezzlement.
