Both argue that wearing face coverings will become a personal choice after May 14.

"As a senior myself, when I go to public places, it's my choice, my prerogative, and I'm going to wear the mask," says Marguerite Blais, minister responsible for seniors and close caregivers, aged 71 years old.

She will therefore continue to wear the face covering at the grocery store, for example.

“It’s a way to protect me more. So far I'm lucky, knock on wood, I haven't had COVID-19. But I think it's important both to protect myself and, if ever one day I was infected, to protect others, ”she explains.

As for the recommendations for all seniors, the Minister sticks to the advice of Public Health.

“I consider it important that the mask is still relevant in CHSLDs. We know that these are our most vulnerable people. These are care settings, in our CHSLDs, so I find it completely normal, ”says Minister Blais.

His colleague at Health, Christian Dubé, will also continue to wear it on occasion.

“Minister Christian Dubé has already said that he intends to continue wearing the mask for some time after it is no longer compulsory, always according to the different situations, underlines his cabinet. Like everyone else, there will be a transition in lifestyle towards the removal of the mask in Quebec. That said, let's not forget that this is a personal choice and that we must all respect the choice of others.

In February 2021, Minister Dubé surprised observers by wearing two masks, one over the other. He had explained that he wanted to be extra careful, the time to obtain his first vaccine.
