According to the Federal Statistical Office, incoming orders in the main construction trades fell by 21 percent in real terms in January compared to the same month last year. A major decline at the beginning of the year was last seen in January 2009. At the same time, real sales in the industry fell by 9.5 percent. In addition, according to Destatis, in the final quarter of last year, apartments and one- and two-family houses fell more cheaply than at any time in 16 years.

The "Welt am Sonntag" reports, citing figures from the real estate portal "Immowelt", that inquiries per condominium offered fell by 43 percent in February compared to the same month last year. In January, the corresponding inquiries fell by 46 percent compared to the previous year.
