Climate: Württemberg regional church relies on photovoltaic systems

The Württemberg State Church relies on the expansion of photovoltaic systems. Bishop Ernst-Wilhelm Gohl said on Sunday at the end of the spring conference of the Evangelical State Synod that this is one of the many measures that will ensure that the state church becomes climate-neutral by 2040. This also includes the renovation or abandonment of buildings.

In order to guarantee the freedom of future generations, renunciation is necessary. According to Gohl, the church should serve as a forum to discuss goals and methods relating to climate protection. "And in view of the responsibility we have towards future generations, it's about securing their freedom rights." The regional church passed a climate protection law at its autumn conference last year.

At the beginning of the spring conference, the regional bishop called for a committed and courageous approach with a view to the change processes in the church. "The most urgent tasks facing our church, i.e. the strengthening of church work in the parishes, the further development of the parish service, the further cultural change to protect against sexualized violence, the confrontation with the war in Ukraine, the replacement of state services and the implementation of the Climate Protection Act challenge us to think, act and pray together."
