Church: Four candidate proposals for successor of regional bishop

Who will be the new regional bishop? Four candidates were named in the discussion about the successor to Bavaria's Evangelical Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm. This was announced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday. The election proposal was assigned to the state synod - the church parliament of the Protestants - on Friday.

The youngest of the candidates is Nina Lubomierski (47). The mother of two received her doctorate in 2006 from the Humboldt University in Berlin. She has been the Dean of the Dean's Office in Landshut for two years.

Gabriele Hoerschmann (54), who is also a mother of two, is the director of Mission Eine Welt. It thus maintains relationships with Lutheran partner churches in Africa, Asia and Latin America. As Associate Professor of Practical Theology, she lived in Hong Kong for over ten years.

The regional bishop Christian Kopp (58) was also proposed. The graduate theologian is dean in Nuremberg and was previously, among other things, a university chaplain. He has two children and grandchildren with his wife.

The fourth candidate is Klaus Schlicker (56) in the starting blocks. As he also studied theology, he is dean in Windsbach and has four children.

The term of office of the current state bishop will end after almost twelve years on October 31, 2023.
