China: The groom wants to take wedding photos despite the storm warning - and is struck by lightning

It was to be pictures that demonstrated the happiness of a young couple and captured it for many years: A Chinese man and his fiancee posed in the Jade Dragon Snow Mountains for their wedding photos. But the photo shoot in the mountains in the northwest of the country ended in tragedy.

While the pictures were being taken on a meadow very popular with tourists, a storm was approaching. The groom was struck by lightning, according to local authorities. Paramedics took the man to a nearby hospital, but doctors couldn't do much. The man was pronounced dead, reports the South China Morning Post.

Nothing happened to his fiancée and the other bystanders. The couple climbed the mountain despite local authorities issuing a yellow level severe weather warning – the third highest category – just half an hour before the accident. Other tourists reported that it had been raining heavily since noon that day. The man was struck by lightning around 1:30 p.m.

The accident happened in a large meadow on the east side of the mountains. This place is particularly popular with couples in love - not only because of the view of the snow-capped peaks, but also because the place is referred to in Chinese legends as the "land of love and death".
