Child Abuse: No priestly ministry and no other duties for pastors

The diocese of Würzburg will not assign any other services or tasks in the church to a pastor convicted of child abuse. The diocese announced this on Friday after the church court of the diocese had previously banned the man from working as a priest indefinitely. "The ban on the ecclesiastical court concerns the exercise of all liturgical, catechetical and pastoral services," the diocese explained.

In August 2020, the 45-year-old was sentenced to one year and four months in prison by the Bad Kissingen district court for sexual abuse of an underage altar boy, suspended on probation. The former chaplain of a Lower Franconian community in the Bad Kissingen district was intimate with the then twelve-year-old around 2010 - among other things, there should have been French kissing. After several months of examination, the church court now banned him from priestly services indefinitely with a decision on Tuesday.
