Central Saxony: Five people were taken to the hospital after a basement fire

After a basement fire in an apartment building in Döbeln (Middle Saxony district), five people were hospitalized on suspicion of smoke poisoning. The fire broke out in a block of flats on Thursday evening, a police spokeswoman said. The fire brigade brought 26 people out of the apartments to safety. According to the information, 15 people were examined by the rescue service on site.

The emergency services extinguished the fire. Because the house and a neighboring block of flats were initially uninhabitable due to the fire, the residents found shelter in emergency accommodation. Even on Friday morning, the buildings were not yet habitable, as a spokesman said. Accordingly, the residents are still accommodated in the accommodations. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
