Case numbers: More corona infected people treated in Lower Saxony's clinics

The number of corona infections in Lower Saxony has risen again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day incidence for the state as 429.9 on Wednesday - after 399.6 a week ago. The incidence describes how many new infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported in the past seven days.

However, the data do not fully reflect the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. Late registrations or transmission problems can also lead to a distortion of daily values.

The hospitalization incidence is the key figure for evaluating the corona situation in Lower Saxony. It indicates how many patients per 100,000 inhabitants were admitted to hospitals with a corona infection within seven days. According to the state government, this value was 11.5 on Wednesday - a week ago it was 8.0. Nationwide, 4.0 percent of the intensive care beds were occupied by Covid 19 patients, a week earlier it was 2.3 percent.

According to the Lower Saxony corona timetable for autumn and winter, the corona protective measures should be tightened if the hospitalization incidence is over 15 and at the same time more than 10 percent of the intensive care beds are occupied by Covid patients.

In the smallest state of Bremen, the seven-day incidence on Wednesday was 419.7 - a week ago the value was 398.1. The RKI gave the nationwide seven-day incidence on Wednesday at 414.0.
