Car: Continental hose quality problems are spreading

At the automotive supplier Continental, the quality problems with hoses are increasing. The Hanover-based company announced on Monday that standards for testing processes for industrial hoses were not always complied with at the location in Korbach in northern Hesse. For example, hoses were not checked as often as required. Since February, the company has been conducting expanded quality tests on all hose types after problems with the cleanliness of air conditioning hoses were discovered. Conti confirmed this before the weekend after "Spiegel" reported on it.

"At the current time there are no signs that there have been any abnormalities with the use of industrial hoses by customers," the group said. Among other things, it involves hoses for refueling, water and steam lines. Customers come from mechanical engineering, the chemical industry and the beverage industry.

Last year, hose production in Korbach contributed a mid-double-digit million amount to group sales. As a precautionary measure, Conti has suspended the sale and delivery of affected hoses from Korbach until compliance with the testing processes is ensured.
