Bundestag approves new infection protection law

The new Infection Protection Act regulates nationwide a mask requirement in care facilities, medical practices and hospitals as well as in long-distance bus and train transport. However, the coalition waived such an obligation in air traffic.

The federal states can order additional measures on their own, such as compulsory masks in local public transport and indoors. Even stricter measures - such as a mask requirement outdoors - can be decided by the federal states if there is a risk to the functioning of the health system. However, this requires a parliamentary resolution in each case. The new regulation applies from October 1st to April 7th.

In the previous debate, Lauterbach emphasized that he sees Germany well equipped against a possible new corona wave with the new regulation. "We will have the situation under control by autumn."
