Bordeaux International Fair: Poppy Beach parasol fixer and Gustave innovation prize

Revolution on the beach this summer. Two forty-somethings, Casteljaloux's Poppy Beach, won the Prix Gustave for their clever system that allows parasols not to fly away. It is a mini-bucket that the parasol can be planted through. After digging a hole, it is filled with sand. The seaside object is fixed by the weight of the sand or pebbles (if it's a pebble beach). Marie-Sophie Tauzin explains that "it's just physical" when she "pitches" the object before a jury made up of representatives from "Sud Ouest", France Bleu and Bordeaux French Tech.

It's practical because you can do with what you have at the beach. In the absence of wind, the Poppy Beach can be used as a glove box. A unique, useful, and eco-friendly object that was developed in New Aquitaine. It costs only EUR11.50. This is exactly what the Fair wanted to reward.

Marie-Sophie and Elisabeth, two creative sisters from Poppy Beach, reminisced with emotion about the "pleasure” of this recognition after the "difficulties" experienced since the launch in 2019. (The Covid and beaches confined didn't help). This prize allows them to present their product at other fairs in France.

The public prize will be presented on Sunday night to those who vote in the Innovations Village.
