Berlinale: Katharina Stark honored as “Shooting Star”.

The actress Katharina Stark (“Deutsches Haus”) has been named “European Shooting Star”. The 25-year-old was honored by the European Film Promotion during the Berlinale along with six European actresses and three other colleagues.

Mariette Rissenbeek, co-director of the Berlinale, pointed out that many of the shooting stars would later return as successful filmmakers. The Berlinale is “a perfect platform for contacts”.

With the program, the organization invites ten promising talents to the International Film Festival in Berlin every year. A special program during the Berlinale is intended to help them present themselves, increase their awareness and create a network within the industry. There are meetings with international casting agencies, talent agents or production managers.

The jury's reasons

Stark, who lives in Munich, began acting as a child and trained at the Otto Falckenberg School. She played at the Munich Kammerspiele and appeared in front of the camera for films such as "König Laurin", "Luna", "Dead Girls Dancing" and television productions. Most recently she played the leading role of translator Eva Bruhns in the miniseries “Deutsches Haus”.

From the perspective of the “European Shooting Stars” jury, she plays “an emotionally charged and demanding role with ease.” The depth of the character is conveyed through a reserved and convincing portrayal.

Other award winners

Joining Stark were Thibaud Dooms (Belgium), Margarita Stoykova (Bulgaria), Suzy Bemba (France), Salome Demuria (Georgia), Éanna Hardwicke (Ireland), Valentina Bellè (Italy), Džiugas Grinys (Lithuania), Kamila Urzędowska (Poland). and Asta Kamma August (Sweden).

Previous German “Shooting Stars” include Daniel Brühl, Anna Maria bother, Moritz Bleibtreu, Jella Haase, Albrecht Schuch and Emilio Sakraya. Leonie Benesch was there last year.
