Berlin: Eisstadion Neukölln defective: opening planned for February

The ice rink in Neukölln is expected to open in February. A spokesman for the Neukölln district office told the German Press Agency that it was still closed due to technical problems. "According to the current status, we assume that the repair work can be completed by the end of January," said the spokesman. Then the ice rink had to be prepared. "The district office is doing everything possible to ensure that we can still open this season - even if unfortunately only for a few weeks," it said. The Erika Hess Ice Stadium in Wedding is also defective.

The district office announced last week that the outdoor area could no longer be used there due to a serious technical defect until March 12, 2023. The reason is a broken valve in the cooling system. The inner ice surface of the ice stadium is not affected by the closure. The start of the season was postponed from October to November to save energy.

In Neukölln, the season should start on December 1st instead of October. According to the district office, TÜV Rheinland then found technical defects, so that the ice rink could not open as planned.
