Baden-Württemberg: Noticeable earthquake south of Tübingen

Earthquake in Baden-Württemberg: The underground moved there on Sunday morning. According to the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale and was probably felt within a radius of 30 kilometers. The epicenter was therefore near Hechingen (district of Zollernalbkreis), and slight damage cannot be ruled out. The authority classified the earthquake south of Tübingen as moderately strong.

Anyone who felt the earthquake can register online here and describe what they experienced. The scientists are interested in the observations from the population for their research. According to a report by "SWR", no damage has been reported so far and the police have hardly received any calls.

There was already an earthquake in the Zollernalb district in July of this year. At that time, according to the police, some people reported that their house had shook. According to the state office, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.1 on the twelve-point Richter scale.

In 1978 there was an earthquake in and around Albstadt with a magnitude of 5.7 - at that time the earthquake caused damage to the houses. Earthquakes occur again and again, especially in the Zollernalb region. "The most visible weak zone in the earth's crust in the state is the Upper Rhine Graben," said the head of the Baden-Württemberg Seismological Service, Stefan Stange, to the "SWR". "There must also be such a weak zone in the earth's crust in the Swabian Jura near Albstadt," explained the earthquake expert.
