According to their own statements, the German tourism group Tui and the Spanish energy company Cepsa have signed a cooperation for sustainable aviation fuel. This should reduce emissions of the climate gas carbon dioxide in the long term, Tui announced on Tuesday. Aviation fuel is made from leftover food such as used cooking oil, slaughterhouse waste or biodegradable waste from other industries.

Tui wants to reduce its ecological footprint and enable emission-free travel by 2050 at the latest, said the Tui Group's sustainability officer, Thomas Ellerbeck. Spain with its holiday islands is one of Tui Airlines' most important destinations. Cepsa wants to produce 2.5 million tons of biofuels annually from 2030 onwards. Of this, 800,000 tons will be accounted for by sustainable aviation fuel.
