Autumn prognosis: Financial experts advise on the development of tax revenues

From Tuesday, the working group on tax estimates will meet in Dessau-Roßlau (Saxony-Anhalt) to discuss the further development of tax revenues in Germany. Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wants to present the results to the public on Thursday.

The autumn forecast comes at a time of great economic uncertainty. The consequences of the war in Ukraine and the associated energy crisis are putting a strain on government budgets. The results of the tax estimate are also important for the next talks on tax relief, which are due to take place on November 2nd between the Prime Ministers of the federal states and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Saxony-Anhalt's Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU) told the German Press Agency in advance that "important foundations for the budget and financial planning of the federal, state and local governments would be laid" in the next few days. Richter will open the conference on Tuesday. In Saxony-Anhalt, the meeting took place in 1995 (Magdeburg), 2002 (Dessau) and 2011 (Halle).

The tax estimates working group estimates tax revenue in Germany twice a year, in spring and autumn. The committee is made up of representatives from the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Economics, the state finance ministries, the Federal Association of Local Authorities, the Federal Statistical Office, the Deutsche Bundesbank and other economic experts.
