A 103-year-old artificial Christmas tree has been auctioned in England for several times its estimated price. The 78 centimeter tree from 1920 was estimated to weigh 60 to 80 pounds. The hammer finally fell at 2,600 pounds (3,025 euros), as the auction house Hansons Auctioneers announced. Including fees, the buyer had to pay 3,411 pounds.

The auction house spoke of the "most modest Christmas tree in the world" with 25 branches, 12 berries and 6 mini candle holders. The festive magic led to a breathtaking auction result.

Dorothy Grant, who died in January 2014 at the age of 101, received the Christmas tree in 1920 at the age of eight, Hansons Auctioneers said. She kept him all her life. After her death, her daughter Shirley Hall (84) took over the tree.
