The Ukrainian Yaroslawa Mahuchich in the high jump and the American Sam Kendricks in the pole vault won the 19th International Springer Meeting in Cottbus on Wednesday evening. The Lausitz Arena was sold out again with 2200 spectators after a two-year Corona break.

Kendricks achieved a new world annual best of 5.82 meters in Cottbus and at the same time met the norm for the outdoor world championships in August in Budapest. "It was a fantastic evening. I love Cottbus and will be back," said the long-injured world champion from 2017 and 2019, who had already won the last meeting in Cottbus in 2020. Second place went to Ernest Obiena from the Philippines (5.77) ahead of Ben Broeders from Belgium (5.72).

Gillian Ludwig from Schweriner SC increased his best indoor performance by 42 centimeters to 5.72 meters and finished fourth as the best German. Bo Kanda Lita Baehre (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) jumped 5.40 meters when he started the season and was eliminated early. The Vice European Champion from 2022 is at the meeting in Karlsruhe on Friday.

In the women's high jump, Jaroslawa Mahutschich lived up to her role as a favorite and also repeated her victory from 2020. The indoor world champion, European champion and runner-up world champion jumped 1.98 meters and missed just 2.02 meters. Iryna Herashchenko of Ukraine was second with 1.96 m. The Finn Heta Tuuri took third place with 1.90 meters.
