Athletics: "first degree elongation" for Jacobs, absent at the next meeting

Italian Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs is suffering from a "first degree strain" which will prevent him from participating in the Diamond League meeting in Eugene (Oregon) on Saturday, the Italian athletics federation announced.

In its press release published after an examination carried out on Monday afternoon in Rome, the federation does not specify which muscle is affected and invokes “caution” to justify this package from its flagship sprinter, who must observe “10 days of rest”.

Marcell Jacobs, surprise Olympic champion in the 100m last summer in Tokyo, where he also won the 4x100m relay, suffered this slight injury when he returned to the straight line last week in Italy in Savona (10 sec 04 ).

He will miss Eugene a five-star 100m, where the other Olympic medalists of last summer, the American Fred Kerley (silver) and the Canadian Andre De Grasse (bronze) are notably expected.
