Art: Kunsthalle Rostock: First show an empty house, then "Blast"

After extensive renovation, the Kunsthalle Rostock wants to return next year with a special program. A reopening is expected in spring 2023. "For me it would be nice if we first opened the completely empty house without art for a weekend for visitors," said art hall boss Jörg-Uwe Neumann of the German Press Agency. "Then you can look at the house and then you will perceive the architecture."

A top-class exhibition is to follow. "Of course I can't talk about what it is now," said Neumann. "If it works out the way I'm hoping, it's going to be a real blast." The boss of the responsible municipal company KOE, Sigrid Hecht, said that the Hanseatic city of Rostock wanted to have a "burner" for the opening. "Because it's the Kunsthalle Rostock." But you have to have an appointment that fits one hundred percent. As an internal planning basis, they want to give a completion date at the end of September.

Almost exactly two years ago, the only new art museum building in the GDR was closed. The renovation of the nationally known house is currently on the home stretch.
