An additional $250 million loan for Ukraine

Canada continues to put its hands in the wallet to come to the aid of Ukraine by granting a new loan of $ 250 million to the eastern country at war with Russia for almost three months.

This additional financial support brings Canada's total assistance to $1.8 billion since the beginning of 2022 for military assistance, humanitarian interventions and measures to promote the immigration of Ukrainian refugees.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland made the announcement at the meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bank governors which ended in Germany on Friday.

"We will continue to do what is necessary to hold Putin and his henchmen accountable for their illegal war and ensure that Ukraine has the resources it needs to win this war," Freeland said in a statement.

Recall that Ottawa had committed in its 2022 budget to provide a loan to Ukraine of up to $ 1 billion.

Le Canada monte ses sanctions d'un cran

In addition to the sums distributed, Canada continues to show its opposition to the country of Vladimir Putin by now prohibiting the trade in luxury products with Russia, in particular alcohol, tobacco and even luxury accessories.

Seafood, fish and non-industrial diamonds will also no longer be able to cross the Canadian border from Russia.

Any goods that could be used in the production of weapons by Russia are also banned by the Trudeau government.

Ottawa has also added 14 new people sanctioned to the 1,000 Russians and Belarusians who were already sanctioned for their involvement in the conflict, mainly oligarchs close to Mr. Putin.
