The City Council of Alicante will remember this Wednesday the victims of the Bombing of the Central Market, which took place on May 25, 1938 and in which more than 300 people died, with a series of activities, organized by the Department of Culture, through of the Department of Memory, in which the entire population can participate.

The first of the acts will be the institutional tribute, which will take place in the Plaza on May 25 at 11:00 a.m., in which there will be an offering of flowers, a reading of a poem Miguel Hernández by the councilor of the branch, Antonio Manresa , as well as a performance by students from the Oscar Esplá Superior Conservatory of Music.

Manresa has underlined that "it is a solemn and sober act of remembrance for the victims, so there will be no more interventions that take center stage." "This is a date on which we Alicante remember one of the saddest events in our history, and with which we pay tribute to the civilian victims of that bombing," said the mayor.

In addition, guided tours have been organized to promote the rehabilitated shelters, free of charge, from Friday to Sunday, and until August by the Association of Official Tourist Guides of the Valencian Community.

On May 22, 25, 26 and 27 at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., there will be a dramatized visit to the Panteón Guijarro and the shelter of the Plaza Músico Tordera from the Panteón Quijano meeting point. A short film about the memory between two castles will also be broadcast in the antechamber of the Tabacalera Refuge during the guided tours.

Finally, with the aim of reaching a greater number of people, some of the proposed activities will be carried out online, as will be the case of a video about the Bombing of the Central Market, a guided visit to the Exhibition "Alicante has fallen » and another to the Plaza Séneca Shelter.
