Alfonso Serrano, new general secretary of the Popular Party of Madrid, the most powerful organization and with the greatest weight in the structure of the national organization, has today achieved a dream: to reach the highest levels within a party to which he has dedicated his whole life politics, starting from the lower echelons, as is the internal organization of Genoa, until today he was elected number two in the party in Madrid.

The satisfaction was evident yesterday, when his colleagues from the popular parliamentary group in the Madrid Assembly congratulated him on his new position. Minutes earlier he had spoken, perhaps for the last time, before the Madrid Assembly with a vibrant speech and issued a warning to the opposition, perhaps so that his successor would take note: "There will be a response to every attack."

That has been his maxim in the assembly, not to leave without returning any blow that the left launched against the president.

Now his mission will be to conquer the south of Madrid, the main task entrusted to him by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

A great opportunity came to Serrano when in 2011 the national leadership made a hole in the PP lists for the Madrid Assembly. Although he continued to work in Genoa, he set foot in the institution that has given him all the political prominence

Until 2019 he did not have a great political projection and his presence in the regional assembly was discreet, occupying since 2017 the deputy spokesperson and the General Secretary of the group, among other positions. His definitive takeoff came when Isabel Díaz Ayuso was appointed candidate for the Community of Madrid in the 2019 elections. Ayuso made him coordinator of his campaign, but his initial intention was not for him to occupy a position among the top ten on the list, although finally , under pressure from other popular leaders, gave in and gave him a position of relevance.

Nor was it in Ayuso's script that he be a parliamentary spokesman, a position he offered to other popular ones, who rejected him. The carambola placed him in a position that gave him a lot of visibility and that he later won with a good parliamentary oratory in defense of the popular and today of President Ayuso, of whom he has become his greatest defender.

In the structure of the PP in Madrid he had several positions and when Pío García Escudero took over the manager in 2018 he appointed him deputy secretary.

His absolute dedication to Ayuso in the war with Genoa distanced him from the popular leaders who helped him in his beginnings.
