Again preventive detention for former swimming instructor after hundreds of abuse

The man was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 133 cases in 2018 for child abuse. The court ordered the subsequent preventive detention. On the other hand, the 39-year-old man went before the Federal Court of Justice in an appeal procedure. He referred the case back to the district court, which had to decide again on the question of preventive detention.

During his many years as a swimming instructor in various pools near Baden-Baden, the man had abused children between the ages of four and twelve. The acts took place in the water and in changing rooms. Sometimes he also made film recordings. Although he made a partial confession in the first trial, he also accused his boss of being an accomplice and even denied acts for which there was evidence.

The slope results, among other things, from proven pedophilia and the series of crimes sentenced in 2018, the judges ruled on Friday after four days of negotiations. 32 children fell victim to him. The man also continued his actions despite a considerable risk of discovery.

According to the statements of the psychiatric expert, the 39-year-old has a high risk of recurrence. During his more than three years in prison, he had not accepted any therapy offers that could have reduced his dangerousness. It cannot currently be assumed that the man will be able to reduce his risk of recidivism by the end of his prison term in September 2029.
