After a crash, Highway 401 westbound lanes were closed at Brock Street in Whitby.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, one person was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 401 in Whitby.

After a crash, Highway 401 westbound lanes were closed at Brock Street in Whitby.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt stated that the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. All westbound lanes are now closed as they approach Brock for Ornge to pick up a patient.

Schmidt stated that one person sustained serious injuries in the accident. Schmidt said that the driver of the vehicle had been extricated.

Schmidt stated that all three vehicles were located in the left-most lanes of the 401 westbound. "Traffic slowed suddenly, and the white pickup was the last car in the line. It was struck from behind and collided with the Chevrolet's back.

Schmidt stated that the major collision reconstruction team is trying to piece together exactly what happened.

He stated that traffic is being diverted from the highway onto Brock Street and motorists can return to the 401 after Brock Street.

Schmidt stated that the closure will be in effect until noon.
