Administration: More fines from traffic violations

The state and municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt received significantly more fines from traffic violations last year. According to preliminary information from the Ministry of the Interior in Magdeburg, the state police received fines of almost 26 million euros in 2022. The central fine office for municipalities and districts came to around 4.7 million euros.

The fines are significantly higher than in previous years. In 2021, the state police reported fines of around 20 million euros, the central fine office recorded almost two million euros. The "Magdeburger Volksstimme" had previously reported.

The Ministry of the Interior cited the change in the catalog of fines in November 2021 as one of the reasons for the increase. Fines "for exceeding the speed limit, for not forming the rescue lane or for illegal parking on footpaths and cycle paths have been significantly increased," said a spokeswoman. But factors such as the "mobility behavior of the population, traffic prevention measures and control activities" ultimately influenced the amount of fines collected.
