Accidents: Already 17 dead after fire in petrol depot in Jakarta

The death toll in a fuel depot fire in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta has risen to 17. 51 people were injured, most of them seriously, the Antara news agency reported on Saturday, citing authorities. The state energy company Pertamina announced money for the families of the victims and for local residents. The fire in the fuel depot broke out on Friday evening. The fire, the cause of which was initially unclear, also destroyed houses in the area, according to the fire brigade.

There have often been fires in plants belonging to the Pertamina group. In 2021, more than 20 people were injured in a major fire at a refinery in West Java province, and more than 1,000 people had to leave their homes.
