In the Wetterstein Mountains, a 26-year-old died in a mountaineering accident on the Jubilee Ridge. The man fell about 350 meters in steep and rocky terrain, the police said.

The 26-year-old was on Saturday afternoon with his companion of the same age on the way from the Zugspitze summit in the direction of the Alpspitze in wintry conditions when he suddenly crashed into the Höllental on the north side. The man probably stepped on a snowdrift, which gave way under his weight, it said.

The emergency doctor brought to the scene of the accident by rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the 26-year-old. According to the police, the climber is said to have been experienced and well equipped.
