There is a shortage of a medicine used for the relief of severe pain. The problem is expected only resolved in the new year.
the Danish pharmacies and hospitals currently have problems obtaining the painkiller preparation Contalgin.
It is because the medication is in backorder.
this was stated by The Danish medicines agency.
the pharmaceutical company Pfizer produces Contalgin, there is a type of morphine.
In a communication to healthcare professionals, pharmacies and hospitals are writing to Pfizer, the manufacturer hopes, that the preparation is back on the shelves as normal in the first quarter of 2020.
Contalgin is used to relieve strong chronic pain when less potent means are not sufficient.
There were sold approximately 65,000 residents immediate packings of a medicine in 2018.
Patients who are in treatment with Contalgin, are invited to contact their doctor to discuss other options for treatment.
- But it can happen from time to time, because the supply chain is long, and the production of medicines is complex.
- supply problems can occur in many places - for example, with the companies, the places where the active substances in medicine will be produced, with wholesalers or in pharmacies, he says.
On Twitter, health minister Magnus Heunicke (S) responded to the current medicinmangel.
- So we have yet another example of medicinmangel. Utrygt for the citizens, and this makes the work difficult for @ PLOlaeger (the practitioners, ed.)
- the medical products agency is therefore in contact with Pfizer about the matter, so that our physicians receive the necessary information about the solutions to help citizens in the here and now, writes Magnus Heunicke in a Twitter posting.
the Lack of Contalgin does not apply to all types of preparation, but a number of different strengths of the medication.
the Danish medicines agency points out that there are alternatives to some of the versions of the Contalgin, which is in backorder.
