Poland on the agreement of the UNION: We must achieve climate targets in our own pace

EU should be climate neutral in 2050, but it will be without Poland, which rejects the responsibility not to be with.

After several attempts and long negotiations, the EU heads of state and government on the night of Friday agreed on a deal on climate neutrality in 2050.

Poland is, however, excluded from the goal of climate neutrality. It confirms the EU Commission's president, Ursula von der Leyen.

The Polish prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, said, among other things, that Poland is 'guilty' of the situation.

- We will reach the goal in our own pace. We must be able to undergo the transformation in a way that is safe and economically beneficial for Poland, he says, on the way from the meeting.

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, is despite Poland's exception satisfied with the result.

- Under the circumstances I am satisfied. That is not the sign of a divided Europe, but a single member state, who need more time to think about how it will be implemented, she says for a press conference.

EU countries will meet again for talks in June 2020.

the climate agreement also follows a series of actions to make the transition period easier for countries that are dependent on fossil fuels - including a overgangspulje.

Although Poland does not join the overall goal, the country will get "a very substantial part" of the overgangspuljen, says Morawiecki, according to the media, Politico, and call at the same time, the agreement for the "a good solution" for Poland.

There is currently not agreed upon a specific amount for overgangspuljen.

The specific funding of overgangspuljen will be reflected in the EU's next langtidsbudget for 2021-2027.
