The frozen southern continent looks from the top, maybe flat and dull.

But under the ice lies a landscape which is just as hilly as the other continents.

It shows the latest topografikort (landskabskort) over Antarctica called the BedMachine, which has just been published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

the Study and kortudgivelsen is conducted by researchers from the University of California and is the most accurate map of the landscape under Antarctica's large split-off ice mass.

It writes the university in a press release, according to the Science.dk.

the Map of the peaks and valleys have revealed the deepest canyon, has so far been known to on land, known as the Denman Glacier. the

"the Canyons of the oceans are deeper, but this is the deepest canyon in the country," explains the lead author of the study, Mathieu Morlighem, who is an associate professor in the Earth's Climate and Biogeochemical cycles, from the University of California, Irvine, to the BBC.

He has worked on the project for six years.

"This is, without a doubt, the most accurate portrayal thus far of what is hidden under Antarctica ice-cap," said Mathieu Morlighem, who has worked on the project for six years.

the Older card proposed a more flat gap, but it did not make sense according to Mathieu Morlighem.

"By combining existing radarundersøgelser and isbevægelsesdata we know now, how much is flowing through the gap – which according to our calculations, when 3,500 meters below sea level and is the deepest point [you found, ed.] in the country. Since the gap is relatively narrow, it must be deep to let the big split-off ice mass reaching the coast," he explains.
