Man, nature, and potential worlds

The charge of the L’art pour l’art, i.e. art created for its own sake, to use, without much else, she must be very long like that. Here, there are so many examples that prove the opposite. So much art that is a comment on society and politics. People to phenomena and problems in order to draw attention. The Thought-provoking. For example, currently at the Kunsthaus in Zurich, where Olafur Eliasson's solo exhibition, great, beautiful, but also wise and profound, intellectually and emotionally stimulating art (up to 22.3.).

Already seen? Then off to Migros-Museum, where from now on the relationship between man and nature in all its facets will feel. The exhibition "Potential Worlds 1: Planetary Memories" (what is it with the "1" in the title: see Box at end of text) gathered, for example, Videos and sculptures that trace the impact of Oil extraction on the environment and the culture. Or the climate change.

Sounds complex, but tangible

So far, So expectable. More surprising is the Work involved in this are, as we Know, the people actually about the nature and how much nature about us can tell. This sounds complex, but thanks to the exhibited works in a tangible and alive – in the truest sense of the word.

"The Library for the Birds of Zurich," an Installation by Mark Dion, is aviary a large, in which the Americans are a bunch of books on Ornithology has arranged (see the image above). On the ground, and the built-in tree, the artist has also distributed objects for the hunt. But the trick is that in the cage during the entire duration of the exhibition real Canaries and Zebra finches are flying around.

the Look

Dion wants to Educate and sees his work as a reverse experiment: Once upon a time, people observed the birds in nature, brought their Knowledge to paper, and began the animals; now the artist returns to you from the people gathered Know about your species. Only The birds will not adhere to our human rules, but this library according to their own laws. This is clever, because revealing. Because Dion shows in his work, that the science is not separable from the history of the domestication of animals. In other words: people Know about the nature, like Faith, powerful as they are, acquire.

Still, Teach, or exhort, not wool, the exhibition emphasizes the Migros Museum Director Heike Munder. But: "We hope that it brings visitors to think about how we deal with our planet. And maybe even a rethinking abuts."

the Show comes now, in these times of climate demos, of course, is no coincidence. However, Heike Munder and her Team for several years, are in the process of Dossiers of artists to collect, which deal with the theme of man and nature. So, exactly such artists, who operate not just L'art pour l'art.

will be shown as An exhibition, two parts

The exhibition "Potential Worlds," in two Parts. During the first part bears the subtitle "Planetary Memories," is that of part 2 (which will be seen in the summer) "Eco-Fiction". And it is about speculative designs of the relationship between man and nature against the Background of our current environmental Situation. The Exhibition was prepared in cooperation with the Yarat Contemporary Space in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it will later be seen.
