The production won an award for best international film in Los Angeles, and British cinematographer James Friend also won an Oscar. Director Berger thanked his team and family. His film is based on the novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque and tells of the horrors of the First World War. The film is only the fourth work from Germany to win this prize - after "The Lives of Others" (2007), "Nowhere in Africa" ​​(2003) and "The Tin Drum" (1980).

First German production in the race for "Best Film"

The film has been nominated a total of nine times and is the first German work to be nominated in the "Best Film" category. In the category "Best Makeup" the film went empty-handed - the team from "The Whale" was honored in this category.

Two awards have also gone to "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Actor Ke Huy Quan won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis was honored as best supporting actress, she was tearfully happy: "I just won an Oscar!". The science fiction action film entered the race as a favorite with a total of eleven nominations. "Navalny" won the award for best documentary.

Allusion to Will Smith scandal

The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who also alluded to last year's scandal during the evening. "Well we have strict guidelines," Kimmel announced at the beginning of the evening. If someone gets violent this time - they'll get the Oscar for best actor.

Last year, Hollywood star Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock for a gag about his wife and was nevertheless awarded one of the most important prizes, the leading role award for his performance in the drama "King Richard".

Actor Dwayne Johnson, singer Lenny Kravitz and actresses Halle Berry, Eva Longoria, Nicole Kidman, Sigourney Weaver and Andie MacDowell appeared on the carpet - which this time was champagne-colored instead of red.
