Because of a bomb threat, a plane en route from Poznan, Poland to London, was diverted to Paderborn Airport on Sunday evening.

According to the Bielefeld police, the Polish air traffic control received an "indication of a possible threat" by telephone, which prompted the landing in Paderborn at around 10:05 p.m. Crew and passengers were brought to safety. A total of 206 people were affected, they should be accommodated in hotels "if possible", it said. How and when they can continue their journey was initially unclear.

The police were on site with a large contingent and searched the machine until Monday morning. Sniffer dogs were also used. Suspects have not been found, said a police spokeswoman for the DPA news agency. The airport was closed for further take-offs and landings.

The aircraft is an Airbus A321 operated by the Hungarian airline WizzAir. According to the aircraft tracking service Flightradar24, the machine took off from Poznan at 8:49 p.m. with a slight delay before being diverted to Paderborn.
