girl pretends travelling to AsiaA girl from Netherlands pretends she is traveling to South East Asia, posts pictures of herself enjoying Asian lifestyle which fooled all her friends and family members on facebook.

Talk about taking the facebook-ing to a whole new level, this blondie, Zilla van den Born fakes a trip to exotic Asian countries when in the matter of fact, she had never left Amsterdam, her home town, during all the timeline pictures she posted.

And yet, her family members and friends believe it and commenting on how lucky she is and wishing her luck on her trip.

Which brings us to the point of her faking her trip; do social media friends really know how her well being is in real life?

Her friends are in Amsterdam, her family is in Amsterdam, she has been in Amsterdam the whole time, but taking pictures of herself in an Asian restaurant in the Dutch capital, a Buddhist temple in Amsterdam and in the pool behind her apartment was enough to ensure everyone she knows that she is somewhere in the east.

Not only that, Zilla even redecorated her bedroom to make it look like a hotel room somewhere in Asia so whenever she gets in touch with her family via Skype, it would look like she made the call from the hotel room.

Is this how far facebook and social media ruin our social life? isn’t it sad that when you are feeling down, depressed and in need of someone, there is nobody there for you, only people commenting on your facebook page without actually be there physically with you?

Regarding this experiment, Zilla said: “I did this to show people that we filter and manipulate what we show on social media, and that we create an online world which reality can no longer meet.

“My goal was to prove how common and easy it is to distort reality. Everybody knows that pictures of models are manipulated. But we often overlook the fact that we manipulate reality also in our own lives.”
